Depressed?

According to this particular test from my Dallas visit my serotonin is way low. My Epinephrine is below normal as well. Of course, I read that there was some controversy over this particular test. Isn't there always?

According to WIKIpedia "... serotonin is believed to play an important role as a neurotransmitter, in the modulation of anger, aggression, body temperature, mood, sleep, sexuality, and appetite as well as stimulating vomiting." Epinephrine, also called adrenaline, "... plays a central role in the short-term stress reaction."

Judy thinks I'm depressed so she thinks these test results are probably rather accurate.

If the test results are accurate I wonder if the caregiving contributed?

terry,
after 9 years of caregiving, how could it not contribute?!?!?. your wake/sleep pattern was definately affected no to mention the others. as for the short-term stress reaction, as caregivers we are constantly under short-term stress termed long.
it would be an interesting study to test all caregivers at their start, and every 2-3 months following through at least 1 year post. i'll bet the results would be profound.
thanks for the post. maybe i should go have my levels tested.

I have never heard of this testing but it sure makes sense. It wouldn't surprise me at all if you are depressed and that all those years of caregiving has a lot to do with it. This job certainly is a difficult one and it doesn't get better instantly when it's over. At least for me, I am struggling to find my way again - and I was only at it for two years.

Interesting post.

Terry, I'm pretty certian that caregiving contributes to depression and anxiety for me. I hpet that the 5HTP helps, but if it doesn't talk to your doctor. There is relief out there in many forms. Take care of yourself. You are too important to let this wait.
