The obituary appeared in our Sunday paper and online this morning.
I thought it was interesting that my brother chose a photograph of dad wearing his Army Air Force uniform. It will be a closed casket service. We will not have a graveside ceremony either.
I remember my dad the way he looks in this photo because he was that way when I was little. So I think that's the way my brother remembers him, too. And that's probably the way we think of him most frequently.
He was probably 28 when the photo was taken. Of course he didn't look like this at 90.
We get a say in our dreams and memories. I was noticing today that already my memories of the bad times have begun to fade. I think that's as it should be.
I'm not on the porch today. I'm at Judy's. May have to build a porch out here though.

Your comment about forgetting the bad times made me remember of all things, childbirth. My labors were long and painful, but I don't remember any of it clearly. I only remember the joy of my wonderful children. Strange analogy, I realize.
I hope you are enjoying your time at Judy's. Will you settle there or find a new home just for the two of you?
Very nice obit. You look so much like your dad. You are so right about the memories. I know there were times I would get upset and ready to pull my hair out but for the life of me I can't remember what those times were about. All I remember is how sweet Helen had become.
Yes, yes ,yes, you must build a porch. It just wouldn't be the same without you sitting on a porch. Think about it, Life from the Driveway, just doesn't sound right.

And maybe you could put up a little plaque, for your Dad, like they do on benches, in parks.

My dad and I were talking the other day while on our way to madison to visit my daughter. He said he remembered when everyone had a porch on which to sit and talk to neighbors as they passed by, to entertain, or to enjoy a warm summer breeze.
